SOWJRA Holds Consultative Meeting on Digital Security for 25 Women Journalists in Mogadishu
18, July 2024… The Somali Women Journalists Rights Association (SOWJRA) has held a consultative meeting on digital security for 25 women journalists in Mogadishu today. The discussions focused on the myriad digital security challenges faced by women journalists in Somalia.
SOWJRA has presented a digital security application called Weheliye (companion), which provides tips on protecting women’s digital information that is susceptible to hacking. The women journalists have exchanged views and experiences related to the topic in question with each other. They have also provided input on the Weheliye application, which is under construction.
The Executive Director of SOWJRA Leila Aded has hailed the meeting, saying that this consultation is paramount for the establishment of a full-fledged digital security application for Somali women journalists. “We want to teach the female journalists and all Somali women the best way they can protect their privacy and information. The digital crimes are increasing in Somalia, the rate of the crimes is alarming.” She added
