SOWJRA WITH THE HELP OF UNFPA SOMALIA AND PARTNER #Y-PEER AND UNFP CONDUCTS ANTI-CHILD MARRIAGE WORKSHOP AT WARSHEIK DISTRICT MIDDLE SHABELLE ON JULY-2019

SOWJRA with the help of UNFPA Somalia and partner #Y-PEER and UNFP conducts anti-child marriage workshop at Warsheik district Middle shabelle on July-2019
The workshop has been participated forty individuals from the different segments of warsheik community and was widely discussed the cause roots of the early and child marriage.

Ahmed Hussein Ahmed the commissioner opened the workshop and said ‘ child marriage is common in places far from education and centre of the government and we should thank to SOWJRA and other donors who participated this program

The- chair lady of SOWJRA Leila Aded Osman spoke after the commissioner and begin her words with ‘somalia is becoming one of the countries who don’t have enough awareness towards child marriage and its negative impacts.

Kali Mirre women commissioner also added that it is existing issue and mentioned that main reason girls marry early is lack of education traditional values.
One of the religious leaders in Warsheik Sheik Abdu rahman Yasin told the participants that he alone stood up to give the community awareness towards child marriage voluntarily,because most people believe that age of 15 is adult in Islamic religion as there are other verse in Holly Koran telling the girl should mentally and physically can bear to have a baby .

The workshop was discussed questions of what causes child marriage and who are likely at risk?

Finally the workshop concluded and the participants agreed that main causes of child marriage in Warsheik district is poverty, traditional values and lack of education rather than conflicts and displacement as warsheik district is stable and doesn’t share other factors of child marriage with other parts of the country.
