SOWJRA Strengthens Digital Safety in Beledweyne through Successful Workshop

As part of our ongoing commitment to promoting women’s rights, safety, and social development, the Somali Women Journalists Rights Association (SOWJRA), in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and with support from the UK embassy in Mogadishu, recently concluded an impactful two-day Digital Security Workshop in Beledweyne, Hirshabelle State.

The workshop brought together women, girls, male youth, and local law enforcement officers to reinforce awareness and build practical skills around digital safety. Recognizing the increasing prevalence of online abuse, harassment, and cyber threats, our goal was to empower community members to navigate digital platforms confidently and securely.

Participants engaged in interactive sessions that covered essential topics such as:

  • Protecting oneself from online harassment, abuse, and cyber threats
  • Recognizing and avoiding mobile scams
  • Becoming advocates for safer online environments

Through these efforts, we aim to foster a community where digital engagement is safe, inclusive, and empowering for all, especially women and youth who are often most vulnerable online.

We commend the active participation of all attendees and thank our partners for their continued support in advancing digital safety and social cohesion. Together, we are creating a future where everyone can benefit from the opportunities of the digital age without fear of harm.

SOWJRA remains committed to empowering communities, promoting digital literacy, and advocating for safer online spaces across Somalia.
