Somali Women Journalists Rights Association (SOWJRA) is women journalists-owned a non-government and non-profit organization founded in 2017 in Somalia. SOWJRA promotes gender balance in the mass media and entertainment industries through networking, professional development, and advocacy for women in Somalia. SOWJRA advocates for representative gender balance and policies that addresses women’s barriers in the mass media as well as changing the attitudes towards women working in the media. SOWJRA supports and builds capacity, knowledge and skills of women journalists in Somalia to reach their full potential and be empowered in managing their careers to take active and leading role in the industry. promotes gender balance in the film and entertainment industries. SOWJRA is a membership-based organization and has 129 members working in the mass media throughout Somali region.
